New strategies are being put in place to ensure female apprentices are not deterred from seeking a career in traditionally male-driven STEM roles and opportunities.
A trial by the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education (IfA) will drop words judged to be “masculine” – such as “determined” and “boasting” – in favour of more “feminine” words – including “kind” and “understand” .
It is important that we collectively boost apprenticeship access for women to increase diversity in this sector. Currently women represent just under 9% of STEM apprenticeship starters in 2017/18.
